Getting Ready!
Tradition
Minnehaha Acadmey is excited to get the 2019-20 season underway. We are thrilled to have our boys playing with our co-op partners DeLaSalle and North Saint Paul. This is a great step for our program. Our goals is to provide our players with the a fantastic high school hockey experience. I believe Minnesota High School hockey is second to none. My goal for the players is to love their experience in the present, and look back with great memories as they enter their next phase of their lives.
Our players know that when they enter our program they will be immersed in what it takes to be successful (discipline, maximum work-ethic, being a great teammate, attention to detail, and personal accountability). The messages our players receive daily will also allow our guys to be positive difference makers off the ice. Minnehaha Academy has a strong faith-based foundation and making a positive impact in the lives of others is central to our mission.
Playing hockey at Minnehaha will allow the players a first-class hockey experience with attention to each player's development on and off the ice. Section victories and state tournament appearances are what players and coaches strive to achieve. We are no different at Minnehaha. In addition to a high-level hockey experience, every single player in our program will know they are valued as a person.
The lessons learned about team, hard-work, and maximizing their potential will carry over into their lives as future husbands, fathers, and positive difference makers in their work lives.
Playing hockey at Minnehaha Academy is special. As coaches, we take pride in developing not only the hockey player, but the whole person. Players in our program will be pushed to achieve their very best in the classroom, the community as well as on the ice. I cannot be more proud of the parents, players, and coaches that I am privileged to work with at Minnehaha Academy.
The Redhawks Boys Hockey Teams will be playing in a different conference model this season due to COVID. In prior seasons, we played in the very competitive Independent Metro Athletic Conference (Blake, Breck, Providence Academy, and St. Paul Academy and Summit School) and competed Section 4AA. This season we have added St. Paul Johnson, Gentry Academy, Holy Angels, and Southwest Christian to the conference. The Redhawks are a co-op team that has athletes from Minnehaha Academy, DeLaSalle High School, and North St. Paul High School. The Varsity and JV teams play 18 regular season games this year followed by Sectional Play. State Tournament action is TBD.
Head Coach Josh Hoekstra began coaching the Redhawks in 2017. Josh Hoekstra is a 1991 grad and played his High School hockey at Edina where he served as the Captain of Willard Ikola’s 32nd and final season of a Hall of Fame coaching Career. Hoekstra played Division I college hockey at Colorado College. Assistant Coach Ed Aguirre is a long time High School assistant and varsity hockey coach in Minnesota. His wealth of experience and knowledge is an incredible benefit to our defensive corp and our program! Steve Wendorf is helping with the forwards and brings a successful coaching and playing background with him. Wendorf is a 1986 grad of Apple Valley High School. Steve played 4 years of Division I college hockey at Michigan Tech. Goalie Coach Patrick Hellier, who won a State Championship at Eden Prairie and brings his knowledge and experience as our goalie coach. The program is blessed to have a great group of men leading a fantastic group of kids.
Minnehaha Academy offers middle school co-ed hockey teams when participation numbers allow it.
